“A Veil is Not a Curtain” are a series of pieces where a seemingly weightless, large plastic cloth is displayed in distinct places & landscapes. The intervention usually lasts no longer than a day. The veil itself is made of hundreds of monochrome or coloured plastic bags, all stitched together. The material is light, airy and fragile. As a consequence, hanging it in open air often means putting it into very precarious and even detrimental conditions: the wind, the sun and the rain can have their go with the veil. In every instance the action is extensively photographed, filmed and recorded. For every hang out there is also a time of recovery and rest in which the damage to the veil is repaired and new actions are planned. The project will come to an end the moment the veil is exhausted and becomes no more than a relic of itself. |
